Parochial Parsings

Well, just as Amitabh is slowly trying to be out of the Raj Tackarey spot light, the other superstar is being sucked into the vortex of linguistic frenzy. The absolute non-sense surrounding the Hokkenagal water issue brought out the worst of tamil and kannada film industry. First of all, this whole issue was raked up by the KSR just in time when the elections were announced. Instead of seeing for what it is, a very cheap political ploy by an unheard of political entity (much akin to Raj Tackarey imo), people from both sides are letting their emotion take control.

First of all, why should the kannada industry go on a rally when everyone can see it’s a political ploy during election time. Why did the Tamil film industry go on a hunger strike talking about the water issue even after the TN CM told that we will hold until a new government is elected in Karnataka? What is use in aggravating the situation by making emotional outbursts and arm-twisting the leading men and women of the film industry to make a speech?

Atleast, I am pleased with the way the project has been put on hold to cool off the situation, though the CM could have avoided making a public statement saying the project would go ahead at all cost. We all know that these two districts need drinking water supply, but the way to go ahead is not by provoking the feelings of kannadigas (I can fully understand that this nuisance was started by KSR, but being a CM he could have ignored the outfit and dealt with the real stakeholders), but finding a solution with them. The speeches by some of the so called “heroes” would have been comic relief if only it was not such a sensitive issue which could take lives of innocent people. I loved the speech by Kamal and Vairamuthu though.

More non-sense from other parts of the country include, Mayawati’s statement on Rahul Gandhi. But since UP politics is completely alien to me, I will merely be a spectator than a speculator.

Lets hope this Hokkenagal issue is resolved in a very pragmatic manner, instead of both sided calling each other names.
